HILT black light theatre Team
— Real People Behind the Magic
Meet the humans of HILT Black Light Theatre Prague: the performers and makers who turn illusions into applause. We’re friendly, down-to-earth, and not the diva type—the only stars here are the UV lights. For this site, though, we let a pinch of AI help us cook up “star” portfolios like the big names. Offstage we’re all coffee, rehearsal dust, and bad jokes; onstage we vanish. Say hello below and enjoy our short video reel.

Štěpánka unexpectedly fulfilled her acting dreams through black light theatre. During the early years of the company, she also completed her studies at the University of Agriculture. Over time she performed in musicals, opera, large theatre productions as well as smaller ones. She appeared both in Czech and international films. In 2007, together with her friend and stage colleague Theodor Hoidekr, she founded HILT Black Light Theatre. To this day, she is the main manager and an active actress of the ensemble.

Theodor studied dance secretly from his parents while attending business school. Once his career began, his family became proud of him. He devoted himself to a mix of styles, from the basics of classical dance to modern and disco, first performing with dance groups. In Prague he succeeded at auditions and danced in TV shows alongside popular singers. He focused mainly on black light theatre and later co-founded his own company with Štěpánka Pencová in 2007. He has since toured the world and continues to lead the theatre, actively creating and dancing.

Adéla joined the theatre when HILT urgently needed a replacement dancer. After a single rehearsal, Theodor decided she was the right one. With only experience in scenic dance, she quickly became the leading dancer and face of HILT. A gentle presence on stage, she also works in security services in her private life.

Dana and Theodor first connected during online discussions in the Covid era, where they bonded over their shared opposition to antivax movements. Despite her humorous and life-loving personality, Dana works in a funeral service, helping bereaved families. Her management skills became invaluable to Theodor and Štěpánka in tour production, and she also assists backstage with quick costume changes.

Gabriela is the daughter of film actor Josef Kuhn, who met Theodor while working on commercials and projects. At just 13, her stage talent caught Theodor’s eye and he gradually cast her in short scenes at HILT. Today, Gabriela is a proud, experienced actress, performing in alternation with Štěpánka Pencová. Last year she completed her studies as a ladies’ tailor and is now continuing further studies in arrangership.

Hana met Theodor and Štěpánka in her youth while working in black light theatre, and they became close friends. After HILT was founded, she joined the company and toured the world. She remains an active black light actress. Hana is also a mother of two sons and works at Prague’s Václav Havel Airport, where she has long felt at home.

Petra once worked as a nurse, but years ago she was enchanted by black light theatre. By chance she met HILT members while helping in a restaurant near the theatre. Over time her talent made her the company’s costume designer. Today she is a key backstage presence, responsible for fast costume changes during performances.

František, husband of Štěpánka Pencová, met her during several months of filming The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian , where Štěpánka acted and František was a coordinator (he is a former film stuntman). He later used his film experience at HILT, first as the main technician, and today he works with the company externally on tours and events outside the permanent stage as the main technical manager alongside Martin Mackovič.

František is the son of costume designer Petra Široká. As a child he often visited HILT, watching his mother at work, and began experimenting with black light tricks. After a year of rehearsals, he was given a full role and has since become a talented professional in black light theatre.

Martin was introduced to theatre through his relationship with Theodor, he is his life partner for over ten years. With a background in IT, he first joined HILT as a technician and lighting operator, later becoming a black light actor. Today he continues to combine both roles within the company.

René has devoted his life to drama and improvisation. Through an unexpected friendship with Theodor, he joined black light theatre, which became his passion. He is now one of HILT’s longest-serving members. Alongside acting, he works as a data manager at a Prague hospital, specializing in leukemia research.

Horazio began working with HILT after helping Theodor during a health crisis, when he was searching for urgent medical help for Lyme disease. Later Theodor started using Horazio’s skills in production and marketing. Today he serves as HILT’s trusted advisor and digital team member.

Marcela was never planned as a mascot. During rehearsals of Images of Love in summer 2024, she was meant to appear as a spider prop but never made it on stage. Left hanging in the dressing room, she became a decoration and was affectionately named Marcela. Today she is HILT’s half-meter tall mascot and beloved companion.
